"Outwardly a dedicated teacher from the Land of Wa but secretly a master-level ninja from the infamous Iga clan who shared his experience and wisdom with many young pupils before arriving in Tokyo. Specializes in what's typically known as shadow cloning, except rather than creating an afterimage of himself through dextrous movement, he physically subdivides himself, actively maintaining control over his torso and limbs even when they're separated from one another. This makes slash attacks ineffective against him and also makes it virtually impossible to hold him captive. He is able to do this because he's not actually human, but rather a type of supernatural being known as Rokurokubi, Hitoban, or Dullahan, depending on the country. As a teacher, he has worked at a number of schools, filling vacancies as needed and always freely and openly sharing his knowledge with the student body, though his competitive nature makes him more interested in teaching younger students who have the determination to outperform him. He also shows great sympathy for anyone who lost a mentor, due to his own past experience."

As a result of this, binding techniques and cutting attacks are mostly useless against him. Sandayu isn't actually human, but a rokurokubi or a type of ghost from another land known as a hitouban. He's the type of teacher who gladly teaches his techniques and knowledge to others. He often wanders from school to school wherever many problems arise and vacancies crop up. He likes students with strong competitive spirits that try to surpass their masters. And due to his experience from his home world, he has great sympathy for those who have lost their leaders.
