He has an easygoing and generous spirit, and has a rustic air about him that is soothing to anyone around him. Translated from Japanese A laid back and placid Summon from the Kitezh Gate with a gentle aura of naivete that appeases people around him. His trademarks are his glasses and his straw hat. His [Rule] would be to bestow his blessing on earth, but this time around, he is the cause of unexpected trouble. The spirit-infused pumpkins he grew for Halloween became too lively and poured out from the fields one after another. They ended up breaking free on the school campus. Because of a past trauma, he hates fire. He holds antipathy towards those who especially disrespect the earth and won't partake of crops. Translated from Japanese In his original world in regards to the near totally ignored ceremony in honor of the dead and ancestral spirits, he favors it thinking "wouldn't it be great to meet with someone from the past again?" That is because with his power to govern the earth, he also has a role as a guardian that appeases the souls of the dead so that they may rest in peace. That is a valuable "duty" he inherited in the past from a friend who had a name similar to his. His friend was hit by lightning and driven away by the king ruling in the heavens, and now he is little more than a faint, distant memory. Still for the sake of the friend delighted by the first ever crops he raised, Volos continues to cultivate the land even today. Even without that stormy weather is a great enemy of agriculture, so he feels a sense of familiarity with those who dislike lightning.

With this in mind, he has succeeded in cultivating watermelons that split neatly into eight segments when struck. These watermelons, greatly sweetened by his Rule, sell like hotcakes, and more watermelon juice than ever before can be found splattered across the summer sands this year. He has inherited the love his old friend had for poetry. The spoken word gives form to the formless, severing possible meanings before they can spread by imposing definitions and limitations. To the world of Kitezh, which is maintained by the concept of spreading and scattering, this amounts to nothing short of death."

Translated from Japanese Agricultural focused Transient from Kitezh who is pushing forward summer seasonal poems about selective breeding. He wished that "even when the watermelon smashing game is done, I want people to enjoy eating it." With that as his driving force he succeeded in creating a watermelon that will split into eight clean slices when hit with a stick or such. By using the Rule he possesses he's been selling his watermelons with increased sugar content like hotcakes. As such, there's a lot more watermelon juice splashing around on the beach than usual. In his heart he has inherited the "poems" that his friend from his home world loved. Language can define shapeless things and cut away scattered meanings. It is through this "scattering" that the maintained System Kitezh can have the power to bring death.

Personality

Volos is a knowledgeable and approachable bear who studies agriculture. His deep interest for the subject shows when he often runs his mouth about facts, trivia and experiments about vegetables which sometimes annoys or bores the people around him. He is shown to be a slight introvert as revealed in Daikanyama Academy's Halloween party, however he becomes more open-minded and sociable thanks to the efforts of Alice and the protagonist. His experiments such as the sweet pumpkins and watermelons cause trouble to the people around him although he does not anticipate these outcomes. Despite this he cares deeply for others and tries to make up to them.

Volos also has a strong bond with an old friend of his and refers to them a few times in the story. The darker side of his persona was revealed when he expressed hatred for Perun for what happened to him and his friend before coming to Tokyo.

Notes

• Volos is based off of a Slavic god that takes the form of a snake.
  • Sometimes he was described as a cross between a bear and a snake, explaining Volos's appearence as an Ursine Therian.
  • His close friend was killed by Perun in Kitezh before he was summoned to Tokyo. Because of this and how Perun sabotages his crops with thunder, they hold a mutual hatred for each other.
  • In his original mythology, the close friend he refers to would correspond to himself, who was killed by Perun's thunder
    • His death is not permanent, as he reformed himself annually as a snake before shedding into a new body
  • The reason for Perun's hatred of Volos was because of him stealing his wife, son, or cattle.
• His Basket Sacred Artifact Yield Bearer enriches that which is impoverished.
  • One application of this is the ability to produce countless vegetables.
• He is a college student studying agriculture.
  • He is quite involved in his research.
  • He is neglectful of his personal lifestyle.
• His Charge Skill line, Boroda Volosatyj means "hairy beard" or "shaggy bearded" in Russian.
• He harbors a wish to return to Kitezh to provide food for his people, while helping those he leaves behind become self-sufficient, as indicated in I Ain't Scared a No Halloween!

So from what I'm getting out of the story/events is that he either was Veles and became Volos after Perun killed him or they had some sort of multiple personality deal going on.
