Summon | I...no, excuse me.* I am Tanngrisnir, a new rookie teacher of the Santa School reindeer course. My leg may be injured, but I can still run. |
Beginning of Battle | Let's run, more, more, to a brighter future! |
Move | I'll gauge the distance...now. |
Attacking | I will kick you. |
Skill Activation | Keep your eyes on this Yule Goat. |
Hit (minor) | Gah... |
Hit (major) | My leg...! |
Charge | Roll, thunder wheel! Charge, roar of thunder! Thunderous Bonecrusher, Winner Tangiost! |
Victory | It is our team's victory. Well, I managed to stay standing somehow. |
KO'd | I can't keep going... no wonder... they call me a meatheaded fool... |
Event (Shop) | Line |
Open Shop | Excellent results. Very good! By the way...would you like to have some stew together? Together, yes? It's something my master once had at the pot as well. |
Close Shop | Christmas is almost over. Have you finished your trading? Would you like one last bit of stew? Would you!? Having any left over would be sad... |
Greeting | You seem to be in a hurry. Okay, climb onto my back. We will be as the thunder that dashes through the sky! Quickly! And freely! ...I might not go as well as I once did though. |
Encouraging | Yes, I once tasted frustration. Don't worry, I'll listen to anything you have to say. After that we can have some of my famous stew. |
Touched | Hm...why did you hug me? ...oh I know! This is training by carrying weight on my back! That brings back memories. I'm going to run while you hold on like that...! ...ow!? |
Conversation (1) | I love running. That's never changed since then. Those days where I cut through the wind, ran through the sky, and pulled the chariot...ah, if I can run with all my might again, I... |
Conversation (2) | This isn't limited to Christmas, but feasts are indispensable to celebrations. Commemorations are important, but be sure to give thanks for your food. Especially stew! I hope people tell me it tastes delicious. |
About Self | I can no longer run like I used to. And yet, I still do not want to stop moving with this leg. Maybe there's a part of me that still believes. |
About Someone (1) | I'm thankful to the headmaster. It's thanks to his kindness that I could become a teacher here. Because of that I can continue to be a reindeer. |
About Someone (2) | Why does Yule want to be a Santa? There's nothing that can replace the enjoyment of running for another's sake. Mmgh, I'm still so unexperienced as a teacher. |
About Someone (3) | A rough, great man needs a calm assistant. Yes, just like myself. ...eh? I'm the same as him? N-no I'm not! |
About Event | Now this is a big sort of banquet you don't see every day. If you don't join in now, then when will you? Now, let's run with all our strength! Come on, come on, come on! |

- He refers to himself with a rougher "ore" pronoun before correcting to a more polite "watashi".

Personality
Tanngrisnir is somewhat calm and collected, though he is a meathead at times. Despite being a relatively new teacher, he sometimes drops his polite manner of speaking to a rougher style when he gets in the heat of the moment. Either way Tanngrisnir genuinely cares about the younger generation about their dreams and ideals and their wellbeing. Tanngrisnir also tends to talk about Thor and a strange habit of offering stew to people. Throughout Ikebukuro Christmas Concerto, he's shown himself to be experienced in combat and strategy to an extend as being from Yggdrasil. His boot Sacred Artifact being unable to activate held him back for a long time, but thanks to the efforts of Pollux, Melusine and the Protagonist, he is able to activate it once again in the final moments of the race.
Notes
- Tanngrisnir is based on one of the two goats that pulled the god Thor's chariot in Norse mythology; Tanngrisnir (Old Norse "teeth-barer") and Tanngnjóstr (Old Norse "teeth-grinder").
- This coincides with his sacred artifact which are the boots that give him a speed boost and appear to manifest itself as blue chariot wheels to the side of his feet.
- His Charge Skill line, Vinr Tanngnjóstr, can be translated to "Friend of Tanngnjóstr".
- The symbol represented on each of the shoulders of his waistcoat is called the Triquetra, or the Trinity Knot. It symbolizes a lack of beginning or end, eternal life, represented by a continuous line looping around itself. The symbol was originally Celtic, but due to interaction between Vikings and people of Scotland and Ireland, many Celtic symbols such as the Triquetra were adopted by Norse culture.
- His leg injury may come from the original story, in which Thor would kill and eat his chariot goats when he needed food, then magically revive them from the remaining bones. One day when Thor shared his goats with hungry peasants, one of Tanngrisnir's bones was broken to get to the marrow inside, leaving his leg permanently injured upon revival.
