Translated from Japanese As the Summoners' advisor, Shirou thought of something in between his days of thinking about the guild master. If he can become a substitute leader if it suddenly became time for that, wouldn't that be even more helpful? As class representative he's shown from earlier that he has high leadership qualities in organizing others. This time he's participating in scout activities to push forward and gain even more leadership experience. His natural insightfulness, consideration, vigilance, and preparedness can be displayed and win trust in him. But even so, a surprise among surprises befell him. The original owner of Shirou Motoori's Sacred Artifact is the viceroy of the former rulers who once controlled this land. Those beings are said to have fallen as stars onto the earth from the heavens from the far off distant past. However, in the future of Tokyo that determination will one day go the reverse of that and advance towards the stars above.

• Shiro's Sacred Artifact, a magical tome, is a reference to a famous artifact in lovecraftian horror called the Necronomicon where the book contains accounts of the Great Old Ones, their history, and their means of summoning them. Though not in its original incarnations, popular depictions have caused it to garner the side effect of causing madness to whoever read it as well as being bound in leather with the appearance of a mutilated face.
  • In the Lovecraftian universe, the book was written by the "Mad Arab" named Abdul Alhazred, which was the pen name Shiro used during his anonymous online conversations with another person with the pen name Cain.
  • The design of the of the Necronomicon is based on it's incarnation from the movie, Evil Dead.
  • Abdul was described as having worshipped Yog-Sothoth and as such, when Shiro caused an Exception, Yog-Sothoth was summoned.
• Shiro's summoning mark is on the palm of his right hand, it has the appearance of a semicircle with a face of the Evils he summons.
• His Role is "Gatekeeper" and his Rule is "Resurrection"
  • Though there is a trend with the five Oath Akashic Records that uses the Rules of the respective character appearing in it in the title and that Shiro's is Oath of Pioneer suggesting that his Rule was changed to "Pioneer" from "Resurrection".
    • The same Akashic Record describes Yog-Sothoth as the "Gatekeeper", which is a reference on the summoning of Yog-Sothoth text revealed in The Dunwich Horror written by Lovecraft, that describes Yog-Sothoth as "Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth."
• Shiro's Charge Skill "Five Books of Madness" is a reference to the known original copies of the Necronomicon kept in five institutions worldwide. Lovecraft also elucidated that other copies may exist, but are kept by private individuals.
• In early 2019, Shiro's previous voice actor, Masato Yoshida, was replaced by Hiroki Goto, possibly in preparation for the debut of AR Equipment later that same year. Upon the change, his original , and first variant voice lines were replaced with Goto's takes.

You know that character that people call the "default choice", that one character that the game itself kind of seems to want you to fall for even when you make efforts to steer towards other characters? That's Shiro in this game. I mean...technically the default classmate trio (him, Kengo, and Ryota.) are all that but....Shiro most of all. No other character has felt more like the game itself wants to steer you towards them, and make you feel bad for friendzoning them than Shiro imo.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Shiro. I think he's fine actually, he goes through a lot, his very Lovecraftian story is kind of interesting,and like said he is doing his best, but he's definitely vanilla default route man. lol

As a unit he's anything but vanilla. He's a really solid debuffer, constant fears and the ability to remove a debuff from party members is hella useful for some fights. Especially higher level ones where the enemies start to just dump status ailments on you and gain CP obnoxious fast.
