They possess a Role that relates to prosecution and interrogation, and for the time being, they are a member of the guild of lawyers and appointers. Due to their Role, they possess a keen yet delicate sensitivity towards the gap between "how one should be" and reality. This extends to themselves, and they have a deep sense of discomfort with the gender of their mind and body. They excel at treating nobles who spend all their time stirring up political strife like poison, so they're easily prone to getting on badly with those who don't like that. Also, they feel a sense of familiarity with people who dedicate themselves to general education colleges fit for their position and learn liberal arts.

Official English "His Sacred Artifact is a golden Snake that can perceive both past and future. Those afflicted by this serpent's venom will have their most deeply hidden memories exposed. Though only in speculation, there are some who consider these memories to be crimes one has committed in a past life or else future crimes yet to be committed. The memories that can be exposed include those regarding events beyond the 23 worlds connected to Tokyo. This is because powerful bonds between those who desire one another can cross even the wall that divides the worlds. It is said that if Astaroth himself is bitten, a woman with long, flowing hair that shines like the stars above will appear. In this Tokyo, one's Shadow and their original self are considered to be two separate entities, but in Astaroth's case, this is not entirely true. For to Astaroth, one's past life and future self are, in many ways, connected."

Translated from Japanese They possess a golden snake Sacred Artifact said to see the past and future with complete clarity. Anyone whose body is injected with its poison will have the concealed "memories" of their lives prosecuted and exposed. There are those from the same world as Astaroth who call the true form of those memories the sins of a past life or the sins to be committed in the next. No one knows if this is actually true, however. Furthermore, this power can also extend to memories from worlds beyond the 23 connected to Tokyo. That is because the power of fate that seeks out and tries to understand one another can surpass even the walls that divide the worlds. It is said that when Astaroth is bitten themselves, a lady with hair colored like the sky appears. Fundamentally speaking, Tokyo treats Shadows and the "original people they were cast off from" as separate entities with different feelings. Astaroth, however, would like to make known that this doesn't apply in this case, because as mentioned above they are connected to their past life or next life or the like.

Official Japanese 過去と未来を見通すという、黄金の蛇の「神器」を持つ。その毒を体に廻らされた者は、存在の奥に隠し持った「記憶」を告発され、暴かれる。アスタロトと同郷には、その記憶の正体を「前世で犯した、あるいは来世で犯す罪」と呼ぶ者もいる。しかし、本当にそうであるのかは、誰も知らない。なお、告発の対象は、東京と繋がった２３の世界「以外」における記憶にすら及ぶ。「互いを知り、求める縁の力」は「世界を分断する壁」さえ超えるが故に。アスタロト自身が己を咬ませた時には、天の星のように輝く髪を持つ女性が現れるという。基本的に、この東京において「魔」と「そこから切り離された元の人物」は別人として扱われ、向ける感情も異なるが、アスタロトに関してはこれが一部当てはまらないことに注意されたい。何故なら上述のとおり、アスタロトにとって「前世と来世と呼ばれる何か」は繋がったものであるからだ。

Notes

• Astaroth is a demon in the Ars Goetia of the Lesser Key of Solomon. They are titled as a Duke of Hell and commands forty legions.
  • They have mentioned that they are ranked 29th, which is Astaroth's placement in the Ars Goetia.
    • Astaroth in-game is mostly based on the demon of the same name found in the Ars Goetia, though it should be noted that Astaroth is part of the Grand Grimoire where they, along with Beelzebub and Lucifer, which is the Exiled soul from Eden, as the three main powers of hell.
  • Astaroth is described as a foul angel with a viper on their right hand whilst riding upon on an infernal dragon.
    • This is reflected on Astaroth's role being Dragon (Serpent) while their Sacred Artifact is a golden snake with the rule of Persecution.
  • Their rule to be able to expose the memories of someone's past, present, and future is taken from their ability in the Ars Goetia wherein Astaroth can give true answers to questions relating to the past, present, and future as well as discovering all secrets.

• Astaroth's charge skill "Criminatores Diabolus" references the Diabolos which was equivalent to Astaroth who was the leader of a group of archdemons that called themselves the Criminatores, also known as the Accusers or the Slanderers.
• The lady with hair like the sky Astaroth's research file mentions is Astarte as elucidated more in The Promised Undersea City.
  • Astaroth's origins in actual mythos were derived from the Phoenician goddess of love and war Astarte where the Hebrew Bible refers to her statues as Ashtoreth (singular) or Ashtaroth (multiple statues).
• Astarte's voice lines mention tearing people to pieces. This may allude to her associations with the Semetic goddess Anat, who had done similar actions to another deity named Mot.

Give Lifewonders a medal for having the guts to do a story about transitioning (from both an AFAB and AMAB perspective) and the trauma that comes with being forced into a puberty that you don't want. I can't think of any japanese game that has the guts to even attempt that kind of story.

yeah i agree me too , I'm glad they made it very clear that Astaroth is indeed trans female and felt major dysphoria in their body and it wasn't their power making them uncomfortable it was their body changing to be able to suit that power were as with Astarte she canoncially says at the end of GoGo2 that she doesn't know if she wants to be a boy or what , she always goes on about how she wanted a body that was strong (which I mean you can be strong in a female body to ) while Astaroth was always talking about how he wished he was smaller and daintier and how he hated his body for the way it was.( im using he/him pronouns for Astaroth to make it less confusing). And yes while Ibaraki changes back and forth from female to male this of course doesn't count since Ibaraki's never expressed any discomfort with their body being male and only changes into his "female" form as a power up and not to feel more comfortable due to dysphoria . The most i can saddle up Ibaraki to be is possibly genderqueer tho since he's never expressed dysphoria over his body or questioned his gender as far as I know, who knows .

For those of you who don't know, Astarte was the pre-Semitic goddess of fertility in the ancient Canaanite religions. After the First Temple forced monotheism onto the region, belief in her was vilified as demon worship. Over time, this label evolved into the Judeo-Christian figure of the devil Astaroth, who came to be mostly portrayed as male. Astaroth having Astarte as the Saku to his Bo is a clever way of reconciling these two disparate takes on the same entity.

Astaroth (purple hair) is a trans girl, and Astarte (blonde) is possibly transmasc (they only really start questioning their gender towards the end of GoGo 2, so it's a little ambiguous); Astarte is Astaroth's past life (kinda)
