Translated from Japanese A Transient from the world of Agisymba, whose details are not widely known yet. He's rumored to be the prince of a tribe that owns the mines that produce the rarest red diamonds. He usually exudes a calm demeanor and shows humility by trying to behave in accordance with the culture of the place he travels to. However, he seems to lose his sense of self at the slightest trigger and reveal his wild, rough heart. He calls himself a "monster" for his incoherent behavior and mental and physical characteristics that are the result of the recombination of multiple living creatures. He says that he joined the archery club because he wanted to acquire the "spirit of harmony" that is passed down in Tokyo. Translated from Japanese His Sacred Artifact is the countless thorns that sprout from his tail and shine like red ore. His Rule allows him to shoot them directly or as drawn arrows, causing the target they stab to explode. It is said that any creature stung by one loses its integrity, splits into pieces, and explodes with emotion. However, he does not currently have the mental composure to aim and hit with them. This Sacred Artifact also reacts to his own emotional movements, and the thorns scatter in all directions, drawing the person in. The reason he, a monster, takes on a human form is due to his "faith" in the recombination of the world of Agisymba. Manticore's wish to blend in with humans is shattered every time his "monster" appears. In other words, he shows his monster to people he wants to open his heart to. Apparently, he once made someone foam at the mouth after drinking the tea he served them during a tea ceremony.

Official Japanese 尻尾から生え、鉱石のように赤く輝く「無数の棘」の「神器」。直接飛ばす、あるいは引き抜き矢として放ち、刺した対象を激発させる「権能」を持つ。これに刺された生物は整合性を失って分裂し、感情をバラバラに爆発させるという。ただし、狙って命中させられる精神の落ち着きは、今の所持っていない。この「神器」は自身の心の動きにも反応し、本人を巻き込む形で四方八方に棘が飛散する。怪物の彼が人の姿をとっているのは、異世界アギシュムバの組み換えの「信仰」によるもの。人の間に溶け込みたいというマンティコアの願いは、その「怪物」が表に出る度に打ち砕かれる。言い換えれば、彼がその怪物を見せるのは、少なくとも本人が心を開きたい相手という事なのだ。見様見真似の茶道で振る舞った茶を飲んだ者に、泡を吹かせたことがあるらしい。

Notes

• He is based on the Persian legendary creatures of the same name, which were said to be human-faced, leonine monsters from India capable of shooting poisonous stings from their tails. Their name is ultimately derived from the Old Persian martyahvārah, or “man-eater”.
  • His red ore-like thorns might be a reference to how manticores were described as having cinnabar-red fur.
• Pliny the Elder's Naturalis Historia erroneously describes manticores as living in Ethiopia, possibly because Ethiopia and India were often confused in ancient accounts. This could be the reason why Manticore is from Agisymba.
• His Charge Skill, Sewochini Mibela Ch'irak'i, roughly means “a monster that eats people” (ሰዎችን/sewochini = people, ሚበላ/mībela = eat, ጭራቅ/ch’irak’i = monster) in Amharic, the official language of Ethiopia.
