"Widely known, highly respected, and looked up to in Tokyo for serving honorably and admirably both as chief of police and as headmaster of the Police Academy. Except, that's not really who he is at all! In private, he actually serves as a black market auctioneer, not only selling off valuable contraband from other worlds but trafficking stray Transients as well. He had a Role once, but he passed it along to someone else, and now regrets that action with every fiber of his being, fueling his obsession over holding on to power and influence. He's always seen wearing white gloves, falsely projecting an image to others that his hands are clean. His favorite pastime is villainously treading over and berating those whom he's successfully subjugated, and his favorite types of people (from a business perspective, at any rate) are those who are fully aware and accepting of their own appeal as a commodity."

In this Tokyo, Daikoku is known as both the police superintendent as well as the principal for the police academy. He is seen by many as someone who combines both dignity and tolerance as a veteran, and he is highly respected. But on the other hand there is another side to him. That would be his being a black market auctioneer who sells precious goods and stray Transients from other worlds on a large scale. He regrets his past where he once ceded his Role to a certain person, so he is unusually obsessessed with maintaining his power. He is always wearing white gloves as if to show everyone around his hands aren't dirty. Daikoku is fond of stepping on and rebuking those who have surrendered to him. He also has a businesslike sense of good will towards people who are aware that they have a certain charm in the marketplace.

"Daikoku's Sacred Artifact is an auctioneer's Gavel believed to bring wealth and fame, which he always keeps close at hand. It's been with him through the earning of tremendous riches, as well as through periods of excruciating darkness and despair, and serves as a physical link between him and the seedy Tokyo underground he's become such an integral part of. And all of that can be traced back to the extremely earnest yet naive young students at the Police Academy, from whom he's illicitly gained such unconditional trust that exploiting them is as easy as taking candy from a baby. Even the deities from his home world of Takamagahara, who once upon a time came to strip him of his position in the hierarchy, are now little more than pawns in his schemes. It's not all villainy, however; Daikoku feels kinship toward others who've had their territories snatched away and been chased to some dark corner to live in exile. Those who work as honest police officers in pursuit of true justice, however, naturally find themselves on the other end of a power struggle against his deceptions."

Daikoku is always holding his auctioneer hammer close to himself. This is the mallet Sacred Artifact that is believed to bring riches and honor. By wielding his shrewdness, his built up assets, and his dark and bitter experiences, he has planted his roots deep into Tokyo's underworld society. Gaining the unconditional trust of the far too serious and unworldly young men of the police academy is like child's play to him. Daikoku laughs about how the deities from Takamagahara who once tried to steal his position from him are now under his control. He has positive feelings for people who have pasts involving agony, giving up their territory, and being driven to dark places. When faced with people who take up judiciary police actions, he takes up a standpoint of hostility in a power struggle point of view.

"The vision of Ne-no-Kuni, covered in snow, imparts a wistful feeling. It is as if time had stopped here in that moment, so long ago. What does he remember? His flight from his brothers, his flesh and blood, who tried to kill him? Or perhaps the day on which he lost everything? Since losing his land and being driven down into the otherworldly caverns below, never again to see the sun's smile, Daikoku's world had lost its color. Was it because he had been stripped of his throne as king of the surface and attained a new crown in a land that had long ago lost its spark of life? With his past identity eroded, he found himself corrupted time and time again. The faith he attained through that process remains with him, in the depths of his heart. Yet, facing the scene before him, he is forced to admit a slight tugging within his chest, an inkling of a past self, before he became immersed in the rambunctious crowds, the ceaseless responsibilities, and the boiling hate within him: a Daikoku who knew no corruption. As he gazes at the scenery, he quietly sips from his cup."

The misery-inducing snowy view of Ne no Kuni has stayed the same as if time has stopped. Is what he remembers the escape from his blood siblings who tried to kill him, or the day where he had lost everything? Ever since he lost his territory and was chased to the bottom of the netherworld where the sun won't reach, the scenery in his eyes have quickly lost all color. Perhaps this is because his seat as the king of the ground above was taken away and he was stuck with the throne for the land that has lost the light of life. His previous identity was eroded and polluted over and over again. The certain faith he found in the spirit world has yet to take root in his depths. It is impossible for Daikoku to see what is here this time and not be a little disturbed on a mental level: his self who has yet to be steeped in tumultuous incidents, boiling hatred, and impurity of days past. All Daikoku can do is look and tip his sake cup back.

Notes
- Based on one of Japanese Seven Lucky Gods, Daikokuten.
- Design elements of the source material are still prominent, such as the hammer (which manifests as his Sacred Artifact) and cap.
- Daikoku's background lore in the game is also based on Ōkuninushi, who is Daikokuten's name equivalence in Shinto mythology.
- Oṃ Mahākālaya Svāhā is the mantra of Daikoku(a.k.a. Mahākāla) asking for luck in making connections and financial fortune.
