「はいっ……分かり申した、我がもう１人の父上！　拙者、この胸に刻みまする……っ」 呪いの掃きだめより生まれ、そして死んでいった魔犬の功業は、８つの珠へと結実した。 一切衆生、畜生すらも発する菩提心の表れこそが、その宝珠により次代へと継がれるべきもの、世に誇るべき「美しき輝き」とひとは言う。 なれば、その美徳を搾り取った亡骸に、残された影は何だというのか。 左様、８つの珠の輝きのみでは、「全」知あるいは「全」能の先へと至ること、決して叶わず。 定められた「役割」、勧善懲悪にて閉じる物語のその先に至るための手がかりを、仔らへと遺したのかもしれない。 それを諭す顔（かんばせ）は時の因果を超えて、与四郎のおとうとに、似ていたという。

Minor spoilers but Shino's true identity is Yatsufusa, who is essentially the "spiritual father" to Moritaka, Tadatomo, and six other "dog warriors," known as the Hakkenshi. Moritaka and Tadatomo have each mentioned their respective "real" fathers who are connected to them by blood relation, but their beads, which each have the virtues they represent, are parts of both Yatsufusa and Fusehime (his wife)'s spirits. Shino is what's left of Yatsufusa.
