Translated from Japanese A Summon who is a member of the Sumo club, he has a cheerful yet rough personality, and has the qualities of a boss who guides his underlings. Because he often undertakes requests even when they're a bother, he is quite popular at school. In his home village in the mountains, a certain man, who despite being close to victory in a match, ran away from Ashigara. Ever since, Ashigara devoted to his time to perfecting the three qualities of sumo; heart, technique, and physique. As a result, he finally became known as "The Most Powerful Man in the Country," and was given his Sacred Artifact, a shimenawa, to wear. He has feelings for an affectionate, gloomy person who was born in the mountains.

He uses this ability to force opponents into sumo matches. He hates people who quit while they're ahead in a fight and he also desperately hates being abandoned. He has a tendency to drag his past behind him and is extremely vulnerable when people point it out. He often hides in the mountains but returns right away when he gets lonely."

Furthermore, this rope has the power to pull in anything, and those caught in it become unable to escape. Ashigara uses this to his advantage to challenge people to sumo matches. His dislikes are people who quit while they're ahead. His greatest dislike is being left all alone. There's actually a side to him that lingers on the past, and he is surprisingly sensitive about it. He will retreat to the mountains if questioned about it, but will quickly leave due to the loneliness.

• Ashigara's 4 star title of "Tug of War Champion." is a mistranslation. 国引き (Kunibiki) is based off an old story where man ties a rope around the country and pulls it in. 綱取り (tsunatori) is the word for when a sumo wrestler who is rank oozeki (the 2nd highest rank in sumo) is aiming for the rank of yokozuna, the highest rank in sumo. His title is calling him the oozeki ranked sumo wrestler so strong he can pull a country. The mistranslation likely came from that 国引き and 綱取り share similar kanji as 綱引き, the Japanese word for tug of war.

This lovable doofus needs another skill evolution imo. He's still solid but he's kind of getting swept under the power creep, and I sort of feel like new and shiny sumo man Yasuyori's taking a lot of the attention.

I still love Ashigara though, especially after chapter 10. Say what you will about who's likely the better sumo, but Ashigara's not lacking in heart.
