Gurus
A guild comprised primarily of mountain hermits, ogres, Taoists, and other practitioners of foreign and/or deeply spiritual belief systems. Despite this, it's known to attract an inordinate number of ne'er-do-wells.—Affiliation Description
The Gurus, known in full as the Asakusa Gurus, is a guild located in Asakusa, Taito Ward.
Their guild icon is of a sacred mountaintop surrounded by clouds with the image of a staff embedded on the face of the mountain.
Their Guild Master is Sanzo and the acting Guild Master is Motosumi in the event that the current leader is unavailable.[1]16
Overview
Ideology
The Gurus believe in the idea of following one's 'path', an idea reminiscent of traditional Taoist beliefs. They follow what they perceive as the true path set out for them and determining if their actions live up to their chosen path. Their members act with clear reason and intent, and they do not label others as an ally or enemy. To them, there is only doing what needs to be done.
Because of the members' beliefs, they typically don't jump into action when it comes to The Game. This is because there are countless disputes within the guild's ranks, making it difficult to coordinate group efforts.[2]10
Members
Unlike other guilds, students at Umamichi Academy don't typically join the Gurus, even joining other guilds entirely. However, some from other schools are drawn to the guild themselves. The membership is described to be fickle, with people coming and going as they please.
Sanat Kumara is not a member of the Gurus, but his actions have had an important impact on the guild's formation and growth because he ensures that no one strays from their true path.[2]10
Affiliations
The Gurus have joined the Great Guild Alliance alongside other guilds such as the Missionaries, Wanderers, and Beast Tamers among others during Chapter 14 to help find their missing Guild Master.[1]16
Portals
Umamichi Academy is the site of the Asakusa Gurus' Portal.[2]9

Notes
- In the Japanese version, their name can be directly translated to Taoshis.
- Taishakuten is the Gurus' rival, but occasionally helps them when they face a crisis. He is noted to have never joined the Gurus, nor any guild, before the events of Chapter 13.[3][2]20
- Jiraiya is implied to be a standard member of the Gurus and not just in his event variant.[2]10
