"This third-year Shinjuku Academy student hails from Takamagahara and is the acting guild master of the Outlaws. Enigmatic in his words and actions, and with his face always masked by a languid half-smile, few could guess at his true intentions, or even tell if he is friend or foe. Despite still being enrolled in high school, he is a suave and seductive host who rules the neon streets of Kabukicho after sundown as the King of Night. His nocturnal activities take their toll, however, and he can rarely keep appointments as he spends most of the daytime sleeping. Both his mastery of hosting and his choice to become the shadow to someone else's light mean that he has little tolerance for those whose romantic misadventures cause trouble for others."

Shinjuku Academy third year student and Transient from the world of Takamagahara. He behaves inscrutably and has a constant languid smile. He's known as the Night King of the Kabukicho Outlaws and is a charismatic student host. As the guild master's advisor he's known as the boss of the nightless city, but he sleeps all day so he's not at all reliable. As a first class host as someone who "chose to be the same as someone else's shadow" he is severe with those who constantly cause disturbances with love affairs.

"Tsukuyomi possesses two Sacred Artifacts: The Moonlight Magatama, and the Trickling Pillar. The latter's glittering light conjures myriad shadows, which in turn swallow whole those entranced by the beauty of the night. He has two siblings: a sister born before him, and a brother who in two senses was born after. It is the brother that he chooses, whose shadow he would become, and for whose sake he takes his black sword in hand. He sees a child desperately chasing the light of the moon, or something like a moon, loosed from the bonds of heaven and fallen to the earth, and he offers out his hand with a smile, for he sees his brother there."

Tsukuyomi possesses two Sacred Artifacts. One is the Moony Magatama, and the other is the Trickle Down Pillar. Its brilliance creates shadows, and those shadows swallow up those charmed by the night. He has an older sister and a younger brother who was born after him (in two meanings of the phrase). Tsukuyomi becoming his younger brother's Shadow is his own wish, and he stands in the city of night with a dark blade in hand. When faced with those who desperately chase the moon or the "moon"'s light that crawls on the ground and never settles in the sky, he sees traces of his beloved sibling(s) and greets them favorably.

Tsukuyomi was born when Izanagi-No-Mikoto, one of the two primal deities (together with Izanami-No-Mikoto), went to the underwolrd, and saw his wife was unable to return, having eaten food from its furnace. He broke the promise not to look at her horrible appearance, and she, shamed, demanded to have him killed. Izanagi escaped, and once he was back, he birthed Amaterasu when he washed his left eye from the impurities of Yomi (the underworld), then, Tsukuyomi from his right eye, and Susanoo when he washed his nose.
One of the few religions of the world where the Moon deity is a man, and not a woman, like in most others. (Although the game portrays Tsukuyomi as a man. The actual Shinto mythology never really explained what the moon deity's gender is. Hence the reason why the actual character is often mistaken for a man or a woman, and vice-versa. Referring Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto as one of the few gender ambiguous figures in Shinto. )
