Clash of Sacred Artifacts - Shinjuku Collapse
Chapter 2: Clash of the Sacred Artifacts - Shinjuku Cataclysm- is the second accessible Chapter of the Main Quest, beginning in the Shinjuku Ward. It consists of six scenarios, most of which have multiple parts.
In this chapter, the Protagonist's acclimation to Shinjuku Academy is abruptly ended when Shiro is apparently possessed by a mysterious book and they're forced to rescue him. During this time, the Protagonist learns more about the rules of the App (SUMMONS) and has their first encounter with an Exception.
Transient from an Unknown Town (1) (Academy - Shinjuku Station)
Narration begins, providing backstory for how the Gates and Transients came to be in Tokyo.
Mononobe opens a class discussing the differences between Transients and humans as a segway to introduce the Protagonist to the class before revealing that classes will be cancelled for a while due to a mauling near the school. While the group discusses it, Kengo is approached by Moritaka about a training session they set up. Ryota provides them with some of the background of Shinjuku Academy, but becomes distracted when Shiro randomly claims he had nothing to do with the aforementioned incident before running off. Worried that something might be wrong with Shiro, the Protagonist and Ryota split up to look for him. While searching outside the school, Lil' Salomon appears to warn the Protagonist that several other App users have picked up their location and are headed their direction. Soon enough, several Fencers show up and, despite being on orders to look for someone else, decide to gang up on the Protagonist in an attempt to increase some sort of ranking. Luckily, Lil' Salomon stops time long enough to give them the rundown on how PvP battles work in the App before they deal with their attackers.
Transient from an Unknown Town (2) (Shinjuku Southeast Gate)
After the initial battle, the thugs that attacked the Protagonist are winded by how good they are, forcing them to have a back-up summoner unit call in a slime group to supplicate their ranks. As they begin to gloat about their "advantage", the Protagonist summons the Red Oni from the night before. Caught off-guard by the fact that they're facing a summoner of their caliber, they struggle to come up with a plan before settling on continuing the attack before their boss finds out that they're in over their heads.
Transient from an Unknown Town (3) (Shinjuku Southeast Gate)
As the battle continues, several therian Transients make their way to the battle. Their leader berates the fencers for not checking what element the Protagonist uses before rushing into the fight and forces them to do so. However, they are left flummoxed upon discovering their attribute is ALL-ROUND, something they haven't encountered before. Not wishing to call their boss over the supposed "Rare", the therians order their group to finish the fight before word gets out.
Finally ready to accept that they're outmatched, the thugs end the App battle and flee the scene. However, they let slip that they're looking for "an INFERNAL user with dark hair and glasses" at the behest of someone named Oniwaka. Fearing this Oniwaka might be targeting Shiro for some sinister motive, the Protagonist has Lil' Salomon use the App to track them. Following the signal to a business district, the two discover the thugs being attacked by creatures called D-Evils. Still needing them in order to discern who they're targeting, the Protagonist enters the Battle Zone on the thugs side to protect them.
With the D-Evils largely tied up, the remaining thugs flee the battle. Lil' Salomon theorizes that the D-Evils are familiars summoned from the App. However, as whoever summoned them is no longer in the immediate vicinity, the only was to end the battle is to eliminate the D-Evils. This becomes a problem when the D-Evils decide that the Protagonist is an enemy and intend to destroy their phone, severing their connection to the App and Lil' Salomon's anchor to Tokyo (though he tries to downplay his part).
As the battle continues, D-Evils continue to randomly spawn, causing Lil' Salomon to panic. The Protagonist asks if they can make a pact like with the Red Oni, But Lil' Salomon shoots it down, stating that, unlike the Red Oni, the D-Evils already have a summoner. However, they're both distracted when the sword the Protagonist has starts glowing on its own. The Protagonist, not wanting to let this go to waste, goes on the attack.

With the number of D-Evils continuing to rise, Lil' Salomon claims their only chance to survive is to break the connection between the D-Evils and whoever summoned them. The Protagonist taps into their sword's power and, to Lil' Salomon's surprise, manages to get them to stop. Lil' Salomon's shock quickly turns to euphoria as he realized that the artifacts rule, Rending, was what allowed this to happen. However, the Protagonist is more concerned about the dead thugs still around. Fortunately, the thugs are inexplicably revived once the Battle Zone is closed, though are visibly traumatized by what happened. Lil' Salmon explains that, even if a player dies within a Battle Zone, everything resets to the start of a battle once it closes. However, before they can process the information, they are approached one of the thugs' friends, Kirito who drags the remainder away with him after apologizing to the Protagonist for getting caught up in their 'rookie hunt'. After they leave, a few more D-Evils show up, forcing them back into the fight.

With the remaining D-Evils safely severed from their summoner's influence, the Protagonist prepares to form a pact with the leading Purple Devil. This causes Lil' Salomon to worry, as he fears that the Protagonist's indiscriminate pact making might overtax their strength. This debate is put on hold when the D-Evil begins leading them to its former Summoner, which turns out to be Shiro. The D-Evils are spawned from a book he holds, but he has no interest in controlling them. When the Protagonist approaches, the D-Evils assume they're a threat and, despite Shiro's attempts to get them to run, attack them.

With the recent batch of D-Evils dealt with, the Protagonist asks Shiro to explain what's been happening. However, Shiro becomes more paranoid and defensive every time his Sacred Artifact is mentioned to have caused this. He mentions that, after they met, the App forced the book onto him and began dispensing D-Evils without any input from him, which caused the death Mononobe reported. Now hounded by the victim's friends looking for payback and constantly pestered by the continuously spawning D-Evils, Shiro's grip on reality has begun to crack. Now convinced that the Protagonist is part of the witch hunt, Shiro instinctively turns the D-Evils on them before fleeing the scene.
Place to Call Home (1) (Dorms- Metropolitan Office)
Having lost track visibly and digitally of Shiro, the Protagonist is approached by Kirito, who, having overheard the exchange and despite the Protagonist's attempts to smooth things over, intends to kill him for what happened. However, before they can begin searching, Lil' Salomon informs the Protagonist that the repeated battles have drained their phone's battery. Heading back to Shinjuku Academy, they are accosted by Triton who is searching for them and Ryota for being out past curfew. They also run into Mononobe, who loans them his personal charger and explains that his status as their legal guardian, and his interest in being a teacher, is due to their similarities with another Transient he met when he was a kid.
After reuniting with Ryota and filling him in on what happened, they realize Shiro can't be the murderer as the death would have been nullified once the Battle ended. However, as he has a history of freaking out when his way of living is threatened, they need to stop him before he gets out of hand. As Ryota and Moritaka keep Triton and Jinn preoccupied, the Protagonist sneaks off-campus and retraces their steps until they run into a horde of D-Evils near his location.
Once the D-Evils are dealt with, Lil' Salomon locates Shiro. However, as he's still obsessed about what happened and unconsciously summoning D-Evils, the Protagonist has to fight their way through them in order get close enough to reason with him.
By the time the Protagonist defeats the D-Evils and makes their pay to Shiro, his mind has become completely enthralled by the book, causing him to think it's his only friend. Lil' Salomon senses a large amount of power being poured into him from the book, forcing the Protagonist to summon their Sacred Artifact to deal with the problem.
After getting Shiro back to his senses, the Protagonist explains what they know about the App's functionality. After being relieved that he did nothing wrong and reigning in the D-Evils, Shiro attempts to shut down the App before anything else happens. As he does so, however, a mysterious power surge overloads the App, causing widespread destruction, forcing Lil' Salomon to disappear, and bringing forth a colossal entity, Yog-Sothoth. As the two struggle to process what's going on,
