The faith that supports them holds that the body contains three souls and seven spirits, and when the souls that support the mind are taken, leaving only the spirits that support the body, a Jiangshi is born. Perhaps, for that reason, they seek those of strong influence to support their minds. Their Talisman, the Sacred Artifact typically attached to their foreheads, functions as a makeshift substitute for the souls they are missing, which in turn allows them to control their actions. Should they be separated from their Talismans, however, the results might not be pretty."
