Despite his age and modest skillset, {{Transient icon|Ashigara|rarity=4}} remains a powerful bruiser. {{Status|en name=Brawn}} and {{Status|en name=Break}} allow him to do considerable damage at good range, while the blowback can keep surviving melee enemies at bay before they can be finished off. Defensively, he has comfortable access to {{Status|en name=Tenacity}} for prolonged durability and {{Status|en name=Guts}} to survive any high burst damage he may suffer. Unfortunately, while he can charge his CS quicker with constant moving, its effect is redundant with his high rate Break on regular attacks.

It’s uncommon to think there’d be a bruiser mage-ranged character given most mages incline to being supports and/or healers, what with him being a big bear, but {{Transient icon|Ashigara|rarity=4}} boasts of boons other mages and certain units could only wish to have, namely Guts serving as KO insurance, the traditional Tenacity on movement and Herculean Strength making his damage pretty good. He applies a pretty unique ailment on LB3, Crushed increases damage taken, which applies for both himself and his party, that thanks to his attack range are bound to be a handful. A few downsides lie in the fact that he requires to move if he wants both his damage and resilience up, and the Push part of LB3 can result a bit cockblocking if poorly executed, especially with certain attack ranges for your party members. He’s a fun prospect for a highly offensive character as well as a very rare and strong archetype to have.

{{Transient icon|Ashigara|variant=Seaside}} plays similar to his original version, with some traits that really show his age as one of the earlier variants, but with enough skill evolutions to patch up his issues. To start, the Beach Babe skill he shares with other variants should mostly be considered a bonus, with its evolution thankfully keeping enemy damage from getting out of hand. High rate {{Status|en name=Berserk+}} gives him good damage, while the retained Break adds to it, though ironically it is inferior to his {{Star|4}} version in spread, activation rate and time of application. With again an underwhelming CS, his highlight is undeniably his evolved LB1. Having {{Status|en name=Nourishment}} is a considerable boost to his damage and defense, but to best utilize it he needs someone to feed him past his appearance. Thankfully, there are plentiful options for providing this at high rate, such as {{Transient icon|Ryota|rarity=4}} and {{Transient icon|Marduk|rarity=4}}. With such support and perhaps some added damage reducing effects, Seaside Ashigara can be a formidable bruiser with some team utility.

{{Transient icon|Ashigara|variant=Summer|rarity=5}} shares the same issue most other beach-themed units have, his Default can screw up your runs depending on what enemy gets its effects. LB2’s Berserk makes his LB1 heal a bit mediocre for both being at each level start and cutting his durability considerably in exchange of amplified damage. LB3 is similar to his original’s, trading off mass shoving for massive shoving, which allows him to better-isolate targets in larger maps and exploit his Crushed bit, this paired with Berserk makes him pack quite a punch. His Charge is a little tricky since effectively, you’ll hit 2-3 enemies at most, but it’s a good one in spite of that thanks to its healing benefits. Proper management of his Default and allies that apply defensive buffs are welcome as party members to get the most out of him, since alone he may easily fall and is extremely bad as a last-man standing.

+ KO insurance through Default Guts along with increased durability from LB2 Tenacity makes him considerably hard to take down.
+ Reliable damage at good range, allowing his allies to utilize the defense down from Break as well.

+ LB1 bolsters his damage through a buff that easily stacks with more common ones, almost on demand as well.
+ Good durability and insurance against burst damage.

+ LB3 Crushed increases damage enemies take, pair this with his attack range and a lot of enemies will become vulnerable. It’s recommended but not obligatory to use him as leader to let his allies approach it to the fullest.

+ Charge has considerable damage along with an effect that can help set up for your party thanks to nullified movement.

'''Cons'''
'''Cons'''

- Being Mage-ranged, his damage is only decent, craving for his own LB1+Crushed if he wants his damage to be noticeable.
- Half of his defense and offense is reliant on moving, requiring it constantly for the former.

- Half his skill set is gated to movement, which applies to both his possible damage and durability.
- Underwhelming CS effect.

- The Push part of his LB3 can result a bit cockblocking if he wants his allies to approach Crushed, limiting viable party composition a little.

+ Applies Fervor to allies whenever he’s hit, being a nice offensive+CP buff.
+ Berserk+ and Nourishment give him good damage, plus Break on the turn after applying it.

+ LB2 Berserk along with LB3 Crushed can considerably bolster his damage, which can be further exploited through any namely offensive buff.
+ Default can provide his team some damage and CP while keeping enemies at bay with Dazzle.

+ Charge is nice under LB2+LB3, boasting of formidable damage and none too shabby healing.
+ Can boast high damage past the early phase when paired with a source of Nourishment.

'''Cons'''
'''Cons'''

- Like most beach units, his Default can backfire badly depending on the aggressor, made worse by the fact he’ll usually be under Berserk.
- Requires an external source of Nourishment to best utilize the evolved LB1, plus ideally some defensive support to add to it.

- Berserk, with him having no way to patch up its negatives, makes his durability pretty terrible.
- LB3 is considerably worse than his original Break skill, requiring him to be the team leader to make use of it on the turn it works. (and his allies would need to reach enemies after they get pushed back 2 squares)

- LB1 is so-so at best due to its trigger method.
- CS is, at standard SA level 1, unimpressive.

Overview

Ashigara

Despite his age and modest skillset, Ashigara remains a powerful bruiser. BrawnATK Up by 1.15x ~ 2.3x for 4 turns (Buff) and BreakCannot move at will, DEF Down by 1.2x ~2.4x for 2 turns (Debuff) allow him to do considerable damage at good range, while the blowback can keep surviving melee enemies at bay before they can be finished off. Defensively, he has comfortable access to TenacityDEF Up by 0.9x ~ 0.45x for 1 turn (Buff) for prolonged durability and Guts+1HP when HP is at 0 at the end of the turn for 5 turns. Removed once activated. (Buff) to survive any high burst damage he may suffer. Unfortunately, while he can charge his CS quicker with constant moving, its effect is redundant with his high rate Break on regular attacks.

Summer Ashigara

Ashigara (Seaside) plays similar to his original version, with some traits that really show his age as one of the earlier variants, but with enough skill evolutions to patch up his issues. To start, the Beach Babe skill he shares with other variants should mostly be considered a bonus, with its evolution thankfully keeping enemy damage from getting out of hand. High rate Berserk+ATK Up by 1.3x ~ 2.6x, DEF Down by 1.3x for 4 turns (Buff) gives him good damage, while the retained Break adds to it, though ironically it is inferior to his version in spread, activation rate and time of application. With again an underwhelming CS, his highlight is undeniably his evolved LB1. Having Nourishment+150~300HP/turn, ATK Up by 1.1x ~ 1.5x for 3 turns (Buff) is a considerable boost to his damage and defense, but to best utilize it he needs someone to feed him past his appearance. Thankfully, there are plentiful options for providing this at high rate, such as Ryota and Marduk. With such support and perhaps some added damage reducing effects, Seaside Ashigara can be a formidable bruiser with some team utility.
