According to certain beliefs, it's the clothes of a great king who judges criminals in hell. The reason he may have unintentionally picked it is perhaps because he feels that role may expand to himself. As an avatar of the type of fear that makes one not want to see him ever again and someone who corrects people who have been charged a certain way, he harbors the loneliness of the avoided.
