Summoning is the act done by summoners, where an entity is brought into the world of the summoner through a pact. The entity may either be a Transient or a Sacred Artifact. This pact is maintained so as long as the entity persists after being summoned, and the terms of the pact are not broken. It is energetically taxing to partake in summoning and maintaining the pact, and has been compared to pregnancy. Because of this, summoners are typically only able to summon one entity.

Pacts give the summoned entity the energy to maintain its form in their newly summoned location, by funneling it from the summoner. If a pact is broken with a Transient, they become a Stray. Stray Transients can only temporarily maintain their form in their present world by feeding off the energy of the land, before they are desummoned. Desummoning is roughly described as dematerializing into light. Alternatively, some Stray Transients can preserve their form through other means, such as through inclusion in a guild (such as Bathym).

Process
In addition to one's physical forms, summoning transports memories. However, these memories may conditionally be more fragile, as in the case of the Protagonist who lost all their memories upon being summoned. Black Storm failed to maintain the memories they brought with them after its summoning to Tokyo during the events of Embark! Summer Ocean Adventure because Typhon and Black Storm had similar mythologies in their home worlds, and thus the System treated them as one (and only brought over one set of memories, belonging to Typhon). Thus, the process of summoning includes the maintenance of what is summoned (including memories), and this process is factored in and even restricted by the System.
