This article is about the story term describing split individuals. For the attribute, go to Element evil.pngINFERNAL.

A Shadow is one of the products of the splitting of an individual's essence.

Shadows and their originals and siblings

Often, the Shadow is the discarded remnants that were unwanted by the original individual. They may represent the discarded guilty past, emotional weakness leading to misuse of power, or perceived weaknesses of the original. In contrast, the non-Shadow may carry the intentions of the original but live as its own individual. In either case, however, both the Shadow and non-Shadow products retain the some mental features of the original, and in fact either may continue living on with the identity of the original. The products of the splitting typically resemble each other.

A split may produce more than one non-Shadow, as in the case of Shino.

Sibling Shadows and non-Shadows may be unrelated in mythology to each other, such as in the cases where Azathoth reconstructs Shadows from their shattered pieces from a plane of nihility.

Relation to Infernal attribute

Characters that are Shadows often have a Sacred Artifact with Element evil.pngINFERNAL attribute. However, some Shadows may not necessarily have this attribute (such as Shino (Valentine)), and some characters whose cards are Infernal may not necessarily be shadows (such as Takemaru).
