Memories Encroaching (1)(Shinjuku)
Memories Encroaching (1) (Shinjuku)
Narration begins, revealing that, ever since tapping into the full power of his Sacred Artifact, Shiro's mind has slowly become overwhelmed by it. He initially disregarded it at first, dismissing the effects as nothing more than minor headaches. However, as time went on, the memories of the artifact's original owner, Yog-Sothoth begin asserting themselves on Shiro's mind, overriding his will in an attempt to take control of him. Realizing he will soon lose himself completely, Shiro uses the last of his sanity to write a message for the Protagonist in his notebook.

Some time after dealing with the Tycoons' invasion, the Summoners go through their daily routine at their Safehouse. After chastising Kengo for swiping a snack he had purchased, Ryota heads out to meet with the Missionaries while Kengo heads out to give Claude the bill for helping maintain the Safehouse. However, the group (minus Hanuman, who is scouting the area for any threats to their Portal) becomes concerned when they notice that Shiro has failed to show up yet again. After Hanuman reports that the APP users who would regularly be in the area have mysteriously disappeared, the Protagonist leaves him to guard the Safehouse while they go to the dorms to check on Shiro.

Upon arriving at Shiro's room, the Protagonist is shocked to see Shiro staring at his Sacred Artifact as if he were in a trance. Realizing Shiro has likely been possessed by Yog-Sothoth's memories, the Protagonist tries to get their guild mate under control, but he warps away before they can do anything. Searching the room for clues, they find a note left by Shiro directing them to someone named Azathoth, an apparent denizen of the same world Yog-Sothoth came from, and a series of random numbers. Figuring this Azathoth might have some way of undoing whatever Yog-Sothoth did to Shiro, the Protagonist returns to the Safehouse to discuss what to do with Hanuman. After attempting to contact Kengo, Ryota, and Tsathoggua falls through and summoning Lil' Salomon proves ineffective as well, the Protagonist attempts to use the APP's tracking feature to see if Shiro is still in the area. However, they become immediately suspicious when the APP reveals that Hanuman is nowhere near the Safohouse despite apparently being inside of it.

With his cover blown, 'Hanuman' reveals himself to be a Shadow similar to the ones Hakumen used to assault Hills Tower sent to keep the Protagonist occupied. Luring them to a street away from the Safehouse, the Hanuman Shadow makes clones of himself to incapacitate them, but is cut off by Toji, who realizes that the real Hanuman was likely kidnapped in order for this plan to be pulled off before joining the Protagonist in dealing with the threat.

Memories Encroaching (2) (Shinjuku/Ikebukuro)
As Toji and the Protagonist contend with Shadow Hanuman, Kengo has arrived in Ikebukuro and is enjoying watching a fight between two Transients. He is torn between his duty to the Summoners and his natural impulse to fight, but ultimately decides to gets some fights in after he's done and heads toward the Ikebukuro Colosseum, unaware that the 'Transients' who were fighting were actually Shadows sent to scout for any Summoners making their way toward the Berserkers base.

Cut to Shinjuku. After being backed into a corner, Shadow Hanuman informs Toji and the Protagonist that he was only sent to keep any Summoners members he ran into preoccupied. However, this doesn't stop Toji from trying to take him out, forcing the Shadow to create more clones of itself to cover its escape. After dispatching the last of the clones, Toji and the Protagonist retreat back to the Safehouse to discuss what's going on. After filling the Protagonist is on the nature of the Shadows, Toji begins to suspect that whoever sent Shadow Hanuman intends to use the Shadows for some sinister motive. Before he gets very for, however, the Protagonist gets a call from Kengo, who, despite being under attack by a group of Shadows, informs them that the Berserkers have been taken out of the Game.

Flashback. As the Berserkers standing within the APP continues to deteriorate, Macan and Snow attempt to hold off an attack by a group of Shadows lead by Surtr. However, Snow is concerned about how long they'll hold out due to the fact that their enemies chose to attack on a day where the majority of their guild had the day off and apparently have an airtight knowledge of their base's infrastructure. As Macan attempts to hold off Surtr and the Shadows, Snow retreats to Claude's office to report on the weakened state of their guild. Lamenting that his attempt to form an alliance with the Wisemen and shore up their defenses could not proceed fast enough to outmaneuver the attack, Claude resigns himself to allowing Garmr to escape into Tokyo with a warning to their allies about what happened while the remnants of the Berserkers still there attempt to hold out for as long as possible. However, as Snow attempts to shore up his strength with Macan, whose Sacred Artifact is weak to fire based attacks, he is intercepted by Azathoth and trapped in an inverted reality as Surtr uses his flames to overtax Macan's Sacred Artifact.

With the two immediate threats taken care of, Babalon makes her way into Claude's office to make him concede defeat. When Babalon begins mocking him for being forced by his mother to become the top of the food chain, Claude angrily interjects, demanding she tell him what her intentions are, to which she casually responds to wanting to make a Tokyo where she can watch over the forgotten and unloved as her own children, immobilizing him with a paralytic liquid in order to make him watch as her plans proceed forward as the APP sends out a notice stating that the Berserkers and their Portals have been taken over by Babalon's guild, the Genociders. Babalon then heads to an underground area of the Colosseum, where she instructs Azathoth to use his power to create more Shadows through a Gate Claude apparently built his guild's main Portal around so they can eliminate the other major guilds from the inside out.

Memories Encroaching (3) (Shinjuku)
After being filled in on the state of the Berserkers, Toji has a hard time processing how Shadows, beings he assumed were just mindless mirrors of normal people, could have organized themselves in order to pull off such an attack, but eventually comes to the conclusion that someone organized and strengthened them to the point where he isn't sure the two of them alone can be able to deal with them. After the Protagonist fills him in on what they have seen up to this point, Shiro solidifies that Shiro indeed has been taken over by Yog-Sothoth, though he admits there might be a chance to save Shiro if they can remove the Sacred Artifact from his control long enough to disrupt the memory merging. With that in mind, the two decide to head to the Tycoons base to get in touch with Tsathoggua directly. However, they are immediately accosted by Shadows trying to force the Protagonist back to their Safehouse, forcing them to fight their way through.

Slippery Tactics, Persistent Intentions (1) (Ikebukuro/Roppongi)
While the Protagonist was meeting up with Toji, the Shadows that were following Kengo had finally made their move and attacked him, much to his annoyance as they refuse to stay down. Forced to retreat into a back alley, he ends up bumping into Garmr, having escaped before the Berserkers base was completely overrun but unable to find any other guild members in the chaos. As Garmr haphazardly explains the situation to Kengo, both are surrounded by another wave of Shadows lead by Kirito, having aligned himself with the Genociders and is in charge of finding unwitting subjects to create shadows from. Kengo is incensed that Kirito would stoop so low as to become a common criminal, but Kirito casually dismisses the insult and sends the Shadows to finish off him and Garmr. Cornered, Kengo has Garmr head to Shinjuku Academy in order to link up with the remaining Summoners while he deals with the threat. Annoyed, Kirito tells Kengo that the Genociders intend to destroy Tokyo in order to prevent the Game's outcome: when a guild inevitably claims victory, the world the Guild Master is from or is a proxy of will be declared the dominate world, forcing the other worlds connected to Tokyo to be stripped of their rights and power; by destroying Tokyo before that outcome can happen, the Genociders intend to ensure that none of the 23 worlds connected to Tokyo will have to experience such a catastrophe. Kirito then leave when even more Shadows appear, forcing Kengo to desperately fight them off. However, just as Kirito makes a call to a mysterious benefactor, Kengo is saved by a mysterious Transient.

As the Protagonist, Toji and Tsathoggua struggle to deal with Kayo, the Portal belonging to the Wisemen has come under attack from the Shadows. However, they are quickly being dispatched by Musashi, a samurai-in-training currently under the Wisemen's payroll. After dispatching the last of the Shadows, Musashi reports back to Shuichi, who had plenty of time to access the Portal's escape routes with Musashi running interference. After making their way out of the guild, Shuichi wires Mudashi the payment for his work, but is confused why a warrior with the body of an elementary student would need the money, forcing the warrior to subtly admit that 'Musashi' is actually an amalgamation of memories from each of the five blades he carries that reside in the body of the real Musashi, who is currently MIA after an unknown accident. As the both separate, Shuichi warns Musashi against heading toward any of the wards affected by the Genociders attack while Musashi advises Shuichi to stop dumping all his faith on his brother Duo and start trusting other people more, though Shuichi is resistant to take him up on that advice, as he intends to win the Game simply to have Duo sit on top. However, winning the Game soon turns impossible as a phone call reveals that someone has been contracted to kidnap Duo, the Wisemen's Guild Master, though they promise to return him safely after the Genociders have been dealt with.

Cut to Tokyo Casino. As she evades the attacks aimed at her, Kayo reveals she intends to take over the Tycoons in order to repay her debt to Azathoth, having been assembled from Hakumen's scattered memories through his power. Completely outnumbered, Tsathoggua warps Toji and the Protagonist out of the bunker while he deals with Kayo and the remaining Shadows. As the two struggle tp process what's going on, the Protagonist finally manages to get a call from Ryota. After confirming that both parties are all right, Ryota passes his phone to Maria, who reveals that the Genociders' Shadows have been attacking everyone, not just them and the Berserkers, before the line cuts due to another attack from the Shadows. The Protagonist asks Toji if he knows anyone who could be able to help them, but Toji informs them that his list of contacts has dried up since before he joined the Summoners and that they are likely better informed than he is. When they reveal that they don't, Toji suggests focusing on the numbers again, and they realize they were actually a phone number. Calling the number, the two find out that the number belonged to Shuichi, who suggest that they meet up to discuss a temporary alliance between their two guilds.

Slippery Tactics, Persistent Intentions (3) (Jinbocho)
Narration begins, revealing the truth behind Shuichi's Sacred Artifact. Narration reveals that, while several guilds have had theories as to what Shuichi's Clay Tablet actually does, in truth Shuichi had purposefully hidden the fact that it sucks up any worthwhile knowledge around it, even its owner's memories, and stores and transcribes them at its leisure, effectively making it the first book. Shuichi had been using this power in conjunction with Duo, whose Sacred Artifact can create worlds based on the information supplied to him by Shuichi, to further the Wisemen's standing within the APP and strengthen Shuichi's goal of making his brother the sole winner of the Game.

As Toji and the Protagonist make their way to Shuichi's meeting point, Moritaka is preparing for his kendo training when he bumps into Garmr, who finally made it to Shinjuku Academy but not without sustaining injuries from his encounters with the Shadows. Immediately sensing that something is off, Moritaka quickly rushes to Garmr's aid, confirming that the Berserker's guard dog has arrived at Shinjuku Academy but that he hasn't seen the Protagonist or Shiro all day. However, before he can get Garmr to the nurse's office for proper medical attention, Moritaka is set upon by several Shadows.

Cut to Jinbocho. After receiving word from an informant that the chaos the Shadows have caused has spread to Aoyama and the Missionaries, Shuichi meets up with Toji and the Protagonist, though Toji is hesitant to deal with him after he helped manipulate Tokyo's governing body into believing that there was nothing dangerous about the APP. However, Shuichi is uninterested in Toji's taunts as he is more focused on explaining why Shiro left the Protagonist his phone number: Shiro knew that, despite his own misgivings about trusting the Wisemen, Shuichi would be their best source of knowledge should anything happen to him. This works out well for Shuichi as he feels that, since both the Wisemen and the Summoners have been crippled in the recent chaos, an alliance is the best way for both Guilds to survive. However, the Protagonist, who trust his own guild's inner circle more than someone whom he knows wants something out of this, refuses point blank. Before Shuichi can attempt to state his case, the Protagonist is contacted by Moritaka, who informs him of Garmr's arrival at Shinjuku Academy and the Shadows swarming the area. Moritaka pleads with the Protagonist to allow him to join their Guild, but Garmr intercedes, begging the Protagonist to liberate the Berserkers from their current situation before passing out from the pain.

With his leverage over the Summoners lack of knowledge beginning to crack, Shuichi breaks down, revealing that, despite wanting their guilds to align with each other, he never intended to trust the Summoners as he felt they would burn him the second his usefulness ran its course. He tries to garner the Protagonist's sympathy by stating that their friends will likely turn on them given the chance, but the Protagonist brushes him away, stating that the fact that they were there for them when they had nowhere else to go makes them worthy of their friendship. When Shuichi is still hesitant about trusting them, Toji, knowing that Shuichi fears that any lie he utters will cause damage to his Sacred Artifact's power, asks where Duo is, forcing Shuichi to beg the Summoners to let him help, revealing that he's been forced to deal with the threat the Genociders caused in order to ensure his safe return. Left with no other choice, the Protagonist reluctantly accepts Shuichi's offer, and the group heads to the location Moritaka sent for them to meet.

An Alliance of Guilds (1) (Daikanyama Academy)
As the Protagonist's ragtag alliance makes their way toward Moritaka's meeting point, the established attack on the Missionaries has begun to take its toll on the guild. Ryota tries his best to heal the wounded angels, but the strain of being in a fight he wasn't physically or emotionally prepared for quickly forces him to pass out. As the strain of the fight begins to cause infighting amongst the Missionaries' forces, Maria runs into Nyarlathotep, who is conspicuously absent from the fighting and singing Azathoth's praises. Suspecting Nyarl had a hand in informing the Genociders of how to bypass the defenses the Missionaries put around their portal and knowing of the threat Azathoth places on those around him, Maria nonetheless forgives her rogue guild member, knowing that he still cares for Azathoth deep down and has come to realize that the Missionaries, and Tokyo at large, is nothing more than a pawn in Babalon's twisted game of chess. As a stunned Nyarlathotep creates an army of himself to dispatch the Shadows he let it, Hati approaches Maria and chastises her for being so lenient of him when she knows this is the second time he's pulled a stunt like this. Maria quickly calms him down before heading off to perform the next stage in her plan: forming an alliance with whatever remains of their old enemies in the Tycoons.

As a stunned Nyarlathotep creates an army of himself to dispatch the Shadows he let it, Hati approaches Maria and chastises her for being so lenient of him when she knows this is the second time Nyarlathotep has pulled a stunt like this. Maria quickly calms him down before heading off to perform the next stage in her plan: forming an alliance with whatever remains of their old enemies in the Tycoons.

Genociders Prologue - Kinship and Connections

Chapter 7: Genociders prelude- Blood and Shadows- is the seventh accessible Chapter of the Main Quest, set predominately in the Shinjuku and Toshima Wards. It consists of six scenarios, each with multiple parts.

In this chapter, Shiro becomes possessed by the memories of Yog-Sothoth, an event that coincides with an attack on the Berserkers base by a violent guild called the Genociders. With several of their Guild members and contacts captured amidst the chaos, the Protagonist must stop their assault while simultaneously trying to figure out how to save Shiro from his enthrallment.

Scenarios

After attempting to contact Kengo, Ryota, and Tsathoggua falls through and summoning Unknown icon.pngLil' Salomon proves ineffective as well, the Protagonist attempts to use the App's tracking feature to see if Shiro is still in the area.

After the Protagonist fills him in on what they have seen up to this point, Toji solidifies that Shiro indeed has been taken over by Yog-Sothoth, though he admits there might be a chance to save Shiro if they can remove the Sacred Artifact from his control long enough to disrupt the memory merging.

Cut to Tokyo Casino. Having escaped from the Shadows trying to detain them, Toji and the Protagonist make their way through the partially repaired Tokyo Casino and enter the emergency bunker to meet with Tsathoggua, though the Protagonist is still having trouble contacting Ryota. While Toji guards the entrance, the Protagonist rouses Tsathoggua from his sleep and explains the situation to him, including the note Shiro left concerning Azathoth. Tsathoggua tells them that Azathoth is a deity that created the world of the Old Ones and was responsible for his and every other Old One existing, though he claims his knowledge was sealed away a long time ago, making him unable to do anything to Shiro, and that Yog-Sothoth was his second-in-command before becoming an Exception. However, before he can get very far, Tsathoggua and the Protagonist are attacked by a Shadow bearing Hakumen's likeness. Calling itself Kayo, it intends to completely take over the Tycoons, forcing the Protagonist, and Toji once he realizes a Shadow managed to slip past him, to try and stop it.

Slippery Tactics, Persistent Intentions (2) (Bunkyo Ward/Roppongi)

As the two struggle to process what's going on, the Protagonist finally manages to get a call from Ryota.

However, the Protagonist, who trust their own guild's inner circle more than someone whom they know wants something out of this, refuses point blank.
