When Nyarlathotep gets involved after Kengo gets a shot in, they realize that Nyarlathotep was the one who instigated Hati's actions. However, Nyarlathotep rapidly creates clones of himself, tying up the Protagonist and the others long enough for Hati to escape with Gabriel, though 'Nyarl' tells them to meet them at 'the place where the Aoyama Guild started' if they plan to stop him. Once Nyarlathotep escapes and everything dies down, the group meets up with Maria. As they try to figure out what to do, Shiro asks Maria why she didn't return to her seat even though she left the green room before Ryota and the Protagonist. Before she can answer, Zabaniyya's angels appear, intent on capturing Maria due to her past ties with Hati. As Maria struggles to come up with a way to defend herself, the angels reveal something worse: in his interrogation of the ninja they captured, Zabaniyya learned that Maria had been lying about who she was for some time. The real Maria had been dead, and she was nearly using her name and identity to survive in the guild. However, Ryota and the Protagonist, having grown sick of the angel's bullying treatment of 'Maria', step in to defend her integrity. Although Shiro wants to avoid getting harassed by the Missionaries' sheer numbers, he is eventually convinced by the Protagonist to help.
