Official English "A blacksmith Transient with an artificial right eye who hails from the land of Takamagahara. Adjacent to the Kamata Technical Academy in Ota Ward stands the remodeled practice workshop where he practically lives, as well as teaches practical skills courses. He watches over the Kamata Crafters, a guild in which many craftspeople who have lost a part of their body gather to strengthen their Sacred Artifacts. A veteran blacksmith, he calls out negligence and inattention with a gruff bellow. Amatsumara takes immense pride in being a swordsmith, and thus gets angry at those who misuse swords."

Translated from Japanese A Transient smith with an artificial right eye who hails from the other world Takamagahara. He is partly settled as a teacher in the remodeled old town practice factory adjoining the Ota Ward Kamata National Institute of Technology. Among the Crafters where artisans who have lost parts of their bodies have gathered to strengthen Sacred Artifacts, his role is as a chaperone. He's an experienced smithing teacher, shouting at the other guild members in a thick vulgar voice over their negligence and recklessness. He takes pride in having sword skills, so he gets angry when people don't treat them seriously.

Official English "The Hammer Sacred Artifact he carries on his shoulder is a part of himself, a dragon that calls forth storms. From the gaping mouth of the enlarged dragon's head he expanded, arise sudden gales that are guaranteed to blow enemies away. Believing in the concept that bigger is better, this man who wields a giant, heavy hammer lives by the creed: Skill can only be gained with muscle. He is strict in the care of youngsters wishing to join the Kamata Guild, but views them as precious members of his family, heartily encouraging them in their training. He apparently has special feelings for the image he sees reflected back at him when he flexes his muscles in the mirror."

Translated from Japanese The hammer Sacred Artifact he shoulders is both a part of him and a storm calling dragon in itself. When the head enlarges to giant proportions, the mouth opens wide and creates a squall that blows away what it is aimed at without fail. He considers big things to be good, and when he swings around his seriously huge hammer, his motto is "art starts from tempered muscles." Students of his who join the Kamata guild are strictly attended to and treated as his own family, thought of as important, and strongly recommended to do muscle training. He's very attached to mirrors, and they say he pays special attention to his reflection.

Official English "Even the Crafters' blacksmith can present himself as a professional educator when the occasion calls for it. He boasts a pocket-sized version of his Sacred Artifact that he keeps in his breast pocket. His bodybuilding efforts work to show off his back muscles and particularly protruding pectorals. He isn't accustomed to formal dress, but he is rather enjoying the praise it is earning him from his beloved family and friends. At the end of the day, he is most comfortable at his smithy, where he can work without stuffy clothing getting in the way of his muscles. He is especially adept at crafting items that illuminate forms; his artificial eye, which illuminates the truth, and his mirror, which illuminates the world, both stand as testament to his peerless skill."

Translated from Japanese Normally he's the watcher for the Crafters, but if you change the time and place he can show his awe-inspiring self as a professor. By his chest is his pocket sized Sacred Artifact that he boasts of. Together with his well trained muscles, he stretches his dorsal muscles as if to display them as he stands on the stage. He's unused to wearing a suit, but if the family and apprentices he's so proud of heap compliments on him, he won't think badly of it at all. But if he has to make a choice, he thinks it's easier to move around in a forge and prefers lighter clothing that shows off his muscles. If something that shines upon his self were to train it, there can be nothing greater than that. It matters not whether it be an artificial eye that shines upon the truth or a mirror that shines upon the world.

Official Japanese 普段はクラフターズのお目付け役も、時と場所が変われば、教授としての凛々しき姿を見せる。胸元には、ポケットサイズに小さく収めた自慢の「神器」。鍛え上げた筋肉と合わせて、見せつけるように背筋を伸ばし、大きく胸を張って檀上に立つのだ。不慣れなスーツ姿だが、自慢の家族や弟子に持て囃されれば、決して悪い気はしない。しかしてどちらかと言えば、より鍛冶場で動きやすく、かつ筋肉を見せつける軽装を好むらしい。「姿を映し照らすもの」を鍛えさせたならば、右に出るものはいない。それは例えば真実を映し照らす義眼であり、それは例えば世界を映し照らす鏡である。

Notes

• Amatsumara is based on the eponymous kami of blacksmiths in Shinto Mythology, though he is also referred to as Amenomahitotsu no kami.

• Amatsumara's name means "eye-divination" which some translate further to "one-eyed", a reference to a common occupational hazard for blacksmiths. Fittingly enough one of Amatsumara's eyes is artificial.

• Some interpretations of the tale credit Amatsumara with assisting in the creation of Yata no Kagami to lure Amaterasu from the cave.
