Kyoma Mononobe and Kirito Tachihara met behind the scenes in the academic city of Tokyo. この東京という学園都市の、裏舞台で出会った物部キョウマと、断原キリト。
共に、社会より一歩引き、いつか自分が居なくなる時のことをずっと考えてきた２人。
「誰かの教師であることだけを求められた」男と、「誰かの生徒であることを拒み続けてきた」少年。
そんな彼らの間に、運命はなかった。出会わなくてもよかった、はずだった。
手を差し伸べる理由はなく、それでもここに「縁」は生まれる。
男は教師としてでなく声をかけ、少年は重くまとわりつくしがらみを拒み、悪態をつく、それだけの関係。
そのはずなのに、気付けばそこにあって、うざったいほどに気になってしまう。
手を差し伸べた男には、相手の姿が自らの姿にも見えたのだろうか。
足元の水たまりがそれぞれの姿を映し、落ちた雨粒から波紋がつながり、広がってゆく。
あの時起きた「事件」は、そんな２人以外の誰も知らない。
たとえ、表舞台の主役でも知ることは、きっとない。
